Taffy is a soft and chewy boiled candy that is pulled and pulled until it is just the right consistency. It's usually stretched into long strands while it's cooling. The ropes are then cut into bite sized pieces and wrapped in wax paper. Another kind of taffy is rolled out flat into large pieces, almost as thin as paper. This delicious candy is made of sugar, cornstarch, corn syrup, glycerine, water, butter, salt, flavor, and food color.
Saltwater Taffy became popular in the late 1800's on the Atlantic City Boardwalk in New Jersey. It became synonymous with seaside communities and a trip to the beach. Today it's available throughout the United States and can be purchased hundreds of miles from the beach.

If you're ever feeling down in the dumps, you probably know that eating something wonderful can lift your spirits. Some people over do it and indulge themselves a little too much. But for others, a little treat can do wonders for the soul. Some folks opt for comfort food, such as mashed potatoes and gravy, or macaroni and cheese. That's fine, but we prefer the comfort of candy. Candy that you remember eating as a child can be the best remedy for the blues. It is tantalizing to your tastebuds and will also bring you back to a comforting time in your life. There's nothing like a stroll down memory lane to make you forget all your troubles, at least for the moment. You can feel like a kid again just by tasting or getting a whiff of a particular candy. Remember the distinctive smell of Wax Lips, or the joy of cracking a frozen bar of Bonomo's Turkish Taffy on the sidewalk?

Sometimes a sugar rush will make you feel better, and other times it's the distinctive flavor of a certain candy that can have a calming effect on your mind. We all have our own mechanisms for dealing with the "down in the dumps" feelings, and our suggestion to you is to have a piece of your favorite childhhood candy for a quick pick me up.
