If you were born in 1982, you might remember this candy from your childhood:
Bubble Tape, Laffy Taffy, Jolly Rancher Stick, Ring Pop, Big League Chewing Gum, Swedish Fish, Sour Patch Kids, Airheads, Razzles, Candy Lipstick, Root Beer Barrels, Pop Rocks, Smartie Pop, Zotz, Pixy Stix, Starburst, Skittles, Blow Pop, Saf-T-Pop, Candy Cigarettes, Lemonheads, Sugar Daddy Pop Jr., Atomic Fireballs, Tootsie Rolls, Smarties, Juicy Fruit Gum, Gobstoppers, Mary Janes, Necco Wafers, Gummy Bears, Now and Later, Dubble Bubble Gum, Candy Buttons on Paper, Black Taffy, Bit-O-Honey, Chick-O-Stick, Push Pop, Fun Dip, and a Candy Necklace. All of this candy comes packed in a special box and makes the perfect gift for a 30 year old born in 1982.

There's nothing more fun than celebrating your 30th birthday with memories from your younger days. Besides candy, other things that will bring back childhood memories are music, movies, cars, and books from your younger days. A thirty year old might remember songs from the '80s such as "Like A Virgin," "Born in the U.S.A.," "Lady," "Call Me," and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." With some songs, it's easy to remember where you were or what you were doing when you first heard the music.
People also store memories of tastes and smells of their favorite foods, and this includes candy. Sometimes eating something that you haven't had for years doesn't taste exactly like you remember it. Candy recipes can change over the years, as well as the quality of the ingredients. Your palate changes as well as you get older. The things that you loved to eat as a kid might not seem so appealing once you're grown up. But one thing most adults agree about is that they love reliving their childhood memories through candy. If you know anyone who was born in 1982, and you need a birthday gift for them, this box of candy made especially for a 30 year old would be perfect.

Retro gifts remain a great option when it comes to picking out just the right gift for someone who is hard to shop for, as they seem to have everything they could ever want or need. By using retro ideas for your gift ideas, you can bring back memories for the person and give a gift that sparks a sense of nostalgia which can bring a smile to the face of just about anyone. One of the best ways to give such a gift is retro candy gift baskets. This type of assortment of sweet treats from years gone by can make anyone feel like a kid once again.

To create the perfect retro candy gift baskets you need to make sure the basket itself is filled with the favorite candy of the person. You may need to do a little research and investigating to figure out and thus determine the right mix of candy to include; however, once you have a decade or era in mind you will be able to track down the retro candy from that time period to include in the basket itself.

Retro candy is candy that was popular and beloved in the past, and is not often found or eaten any longer. This does not always mean you cannot locate the candy, though you do need to search around a bit more as you most likely will not find such retro candy simply sitting in a typical grocery store. In fact, because the candy is not always seen or even thought of any longer, when you give this as a gift you will spark a sense of history and make the person you are giving the gift to feel like a school kid once again.

Favorite candy for many adults is often the candy from their childhood. You can always find someone talking about the candy they ate as a child and how they wonder if that candy is even made any longer. This is your window of opportunity to make a truly memorable gift by giving retro candy gift baskets to just about anybody who you want to see smile and bring joy to their special day. Invoking the memories of one's childhood is always a way to make someone smile, and using this as a means for gift giving can make your gift all the more special and one that you will opt for time and time again.

You’ve just turned 50. It’s a golden year. You have slowed down a bit. You want to stop and smell the roses. A walk in the park arm and arm with your partner is fine. You look forward to that quiet dinner out with friends. You’ve decided to join an exercise club to lose weight and feel better. You are eating healthier. You plan that special vacation to a place you’ve always wanted to see. In fact 50 is a wonderful year.

You will be attending a friend’s birthday and are looking for 50th birthday gift ideas. As you search the Internet, you notice that 50th birthday gift baskets are very popular. Some of these baskets are retro candy gift baskets. Retro candy gift baskets have some neat items. Remember your candy cigarette? What about bubble gum? You can find Sugar Daddy Jr. and Chiclets in some retro candy baskets too. How about Jujubes? Or Chuckles? You will find these and more in retro candy assortments.

While you are searching for 50th birthday gift ideas you are asking yourself, "What should I bring?" 50th birthday gift baskets are one idea. Is there something else, something different? Should I bring something conventional like a mug, a button or a T-shirt? You might decide to stay with tried and true items like tote bags, magnets, greeting cards, aprons, thermos bottle, framed tiles or a blanket wrap. You could get some funny phrases on any of these gifts.

But you know this person well. You grew up together. You know he/she wanted to be a rock star. How about a toy '50s guitar? He/she loved the Beatles so you decide to include a Beatles album. In fact why not have that music in the background during the party. You remember that “Let it Be” was his/her favorite song and you play that one and let the rest of the tape run.

The next question that pops into your mind is: I know him/her real well, how sexy do I want to go with the gift? Should I bring jewelry? I could bring earrings, a necklace or a bracelet? Or I could be a bit riskier and bring a tank top or some underwear and panties.

Whatever you decide to bring, make the 50th birthday a real celebration. There must be laughter. Ask one of your jokester friends to tell the best '50s jokes. Most of all, let the guest of honor round out the evening with his/her best true to life '50s stories.

She awoke with a start. Someone was banging on the door. Her eyes slowly opened and she jumped out of bed. She slipped her feet into her slippers, put on her robe and walked to the door to see who it was.

She was surprised to see the mail man holding an over sized envelope and a gift box of flowers. Then she remembered what day this was. It was her birthday and this was the first of many over the hill birthday gifts she would receive. She sighed. She was now a true member of the over the hill gang. This was her fiftieth birthday and she was aging.

The letter carrier handed her a box of flowers and large birthday card. He wished her a happy birthday. She thanked him, walked into her house and smiled.

She filled a vase with fresh water. She took the flowers out of the box; clipped the bottom of each stem and placed the red roses into the water. She opened her card and realized she had just received the first of her over the hill birthday gifts.

The phone rang most of the day. Friends and family called to wish her a happy birthday, She felt so special that tears filled her eyes. No longer did she have to wonder what it would feel like to celebrate her fiftieth birthday and receive over the hill gang birthday gifts. She just found out.

For most of the day over the hill gag gifts kept arriving. Each gift had a fun card that made reference to her age. One card showed a picture of an old woman with wrinkles on her face leaning on a cane. She did not know whether to laugh or cry. The picture was far from looking like her.

Suddenly she felt happy. She felt free to do anything she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She wanted to go back to college and get her art degree. She suddenly felt free to do whatever made her happy.

One of the over the hill gag gifts showed an old woman on a plane. She wanted to travel. She was tired of going to work every day. She had a life yet to live. She wanted to live it.

One of the gift boxes contained retro candy buttons. She almost forgot how good they had tasted. She pulled one off the white paper strip it stuck to and popped it into her mouth. It still tasted delicious. She recalled some of her dates. She saw Frank Sinatra in person and danced to the music of Tommy Dorsey. The subway to New York was safe and clean. At Christmas time, her date took her to see the Rockettes dance on the stage of Radio City Music Hall in New York City. She wished she could turn back the clock. She took a make-believe-puff out of one of the retro candy cigarettes and blew out make-believe-smoke. She began to feel young again.

This morning she woke elated at the thought of becoming one of the over the hill gang. She spent most of the day reminiscing. She enjoyed the last of her retro candy buttons and came to a decision about the changes she was going to make in her life now that she was a part of the over the hill gang. She was going to start fresh as though she were a child again.

A trip down memory lane is easier when you are young. What is there to remember? Everything just happened yesterday. Even bad stuff like a scraped knee or a bloody nose was still covered in bandages and hurt. Now when you have passed the half way point (to wherever) there is a whole exciting lifetime to feed your nostalgia. Good times, bad times, adventures, wonderful sights, wonderful sounds, wonderful times, disastrous times, colors, tastes, flavors supply you with a place to start your walk and what to remember. Maybe even what to forget..

A walk down memory lane is a lot different from other walks. First of all,
unlike the wise sayings of contemporary sages, it does not begin with a single
step. A meaningful walk begins with a single bite. The trick is to know what to
bite. A logical thing would be your favorite candy. You just go into any store
that has a candy shelf, and there it is, isn’t it? It looks the same, same
familiar wrapper, except that it costs 95 cents. You remember it cost a nickel
and also it does feel slightly smaller? Of course you could have grown enough
to make a difference in relationship to the size of your body and the size of
the bar.

Yea, right. A better dream would be to find an old candy store that would still
sell retro candy. Candy and retro candy gift baskets were the treat of every
holiday and we all knew our dentists and they all knew our sugar coated teeth
by their first names. Of course all dentists were nice to little kids so they
were not afraid to come see them next time. They all gave their patients candy
treats at the end of every treatment. A lot of creative medicine that was developed was started in those times, based on the basis of ignorance is bliss, also necessity is the mother of invention. Dentists had a tough time getting patients the message of regular dental care in those times, before TV ads..

You could often spot a child who had just left the dentist’s office by the end of a Saf-T-Pop protruding from between the Wax Lips in his mouth.. The smart kids were the ones that were so” brave” and well behaved at the dentists that they got two Saf-T-Pops and a Now & Later. But by hook or by crook you had really done well if your memory lane had lots of candy times. But lots of candy was good for all occasions. The memory of a get together was sweetened if there was lots of candy handed out by one of the gang. Tons of Jujubes were always a hit particularly if you were the one with the Wax Lips that produced heaps of childhood laughter. Good candy, Jujubes, sticky stuff and funny faces made you the neighborhood star at the grand price of a nickel for a whole bag of almost forgotten history that’s a worthwhile memory.

Send those special people back in time to the good old days with retro candy
gift baskets. Purchase one that is ready made or add a personal touch by
choosing some of the all-time favorite retro candies. The biggest challenge is
deciding which retro candy will bring back the most precious memories for the
recipient. Add some of the all time favorites through the years along with some
others and let the nostalgia begin.

Now and Later Candy
Now and Later candy originated in the early 1960s wrapped in colorful paper.
The square shaped candy contains a large variety of fruity flavors. The candies
are available in both the hard and soft variety. Now and Later is a taffy type
candy bursting with twenty-four fruity flavors of pure heaven. These candies
add a splash of color to any retro candy gift basket and deliver a chewy long
lasting fruit flavor.
Boston Baked Beans
These are not simply beans baked in Boston regardless of the name. Boston Baked Beans are
peanuts coated with a sweet sugary mix. The sugar coated peanuts date back to
the 1930s and have remained a favorite throughout the years. The peanuts are
tossed into a pan that revolves while at the same time adding color, flavor and
other ingredients that covers the peanuts with a sugar coating. The process
continues until the Baked Beans are the right size for packaging.

Bit-O-Honey
Bit-O-Honey originated in 1924 as an American Candy Bar sporting a red and yellow wrapped candy with
blue lettering. The candy bar contains 6 pieces of candy packaged together in
wax paper and wrapped in its colorful wrapper. The candy consists of a one of a
kind honey-flavored taffy with bits of almonds scattered through out the
mixture. The candy is available in candies, bars or bite sized bars with a long
lasting chewy texture.

Wax Lips
Remember those red lips that everyone just had to have. They are still
available today and as much fun as ever. The novelty paraffin wax is flavored
and molded into over sized lips with a bite plate in back to hold the candy
between the teeth. The wax candy made its first appearance in the 1900's
intended more as a novelty item than a candy. The idea was after the fun of the
over-sized lips grew old the flavored red lips were chewable for gum. Many
girls experienced their first kiss hidden behind over-sized ruby red Wax Lips.
Retro Candy is Ageless as Time
Retro candy gift baskets make great gifts created to reflect one place in time
or cover the memories of a lifetime. Now and Later Candy, Boston Baked Beans,
Bit-O-Honey, and Wax Lips are only a sampling of the old time candy still
available. Add Hot Tamales, Red Hots, a Cherry Mash or any number of other
favorites. Tuck an old movie in the gift basket for a real treat because most
people purchase these candies over the counter at the movie theaters of
yesterday.

Whether you're buying for a child of the ‘60s or a Millennium baby, unique vintage gifts are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face.

A perennial and inexpensive favorite, Silly Putty was created accidentally by a scientist looking for a replacement for rubber. This silicone polymer compouAdd Imagend was introduced to consumers in 1950. It bounces and stretches, and even comes in handy for more practical purposes such as cleaning cat hair off your favorite sweater or as a therapeutic stress buster. Packaged in a distinctive plastic egg and originally sold only in a coral color, today Silly Putty is available in 13 different colors, including metallic gold and bright shades of pink, orange, yellow and green.

Another unique vintage gift that came out of the 1950s is Gumby, the green creature that spun off from its own TV series to become a cultural icon. Created by Art Clokey and used in his stop-motion clay animation, the clay, stick-like man got his big break when he appeared on "The Howdy Doody Show," which was quickly followed up with a weekly series featuring sidekick Pokey and nemeses, the Blockheads. Today, Gumby merchandise is a favorite among toy collectors. Bendable figures are available along with stuffed dolls, key chains, mugs, video games and DVDs.

Similar to Gumby, the Mr. Bill Saturday Night Live doll also has its origins as a stop-motion clay animation production on a television series. Created as a parody of a children’s show and first aired on NBC’s "Saturday Night Live" on Feb. 28, 1976, the hapless Mr. Bill known for his high-pitched “Ohhhh nooooooo...” plea took on a life of his own and was featured in various advertising campaigns as well as his own live-action movie and television series. The popularity of the show led to merchandising including a Mr. Bill Saturday Night Live doll in plush and plastic bendable form.

Mr. Potato Head and related accessories are other unique vintage gifts sure to bring a smile. When Mr. Potato Head was originally introduced by Hasbro in 1952, it consisted of plastic body parts and accessories that could be stuck into a real potato or other vegetable, which the consumer supplied himself. Since then, the classic toy has expanded to include a plastic potato, various themed-accessory kits such as pirates, firemen, rock stars and popular movie characters including Indiana Jones, and even companions such as Mrs. Potato Head and Mr. Potato Head Spud Bud Pets.

Vintage lunch boxes are part of the growing number of nostalgia items that are becoming popular today. There are so many items like the Superman lunch box that are gaining the attention of kids.

Many other adults are introducing their kids to some of the icons of their youth. The classic Marilyn Monroe, lunch box, for example is a rare find that turns up in antique stores. Some of these items can be found at low prices because they may not be in the best conditions.

There are other times, however, where these vintage lunch boxes are rather expensive. The Rolling Stones lunch box is a popular collector's item because the group was so successful. These boxes aren't made anymore and this is what makes them a piece of rock history. Some of them are in great condition because they have not been used. It's easier to find them online because there are so many sites that have multiple sellers.

Marilyn Monroe lunch box products are also very valuable because she was such a larger than life sex symbol. Few children would gravitate towards a Marylin Monroe lunch box today. This would be more of a collector's item for adults that were in search of entertainment memorabilia.

Children today will still find interest in the Superman lunch box. This is a vintage item, but it easier to find. It can also be found at a lower price because there were so many made. Superman was around for a long time. Tons of these boxes were made because this was also a cartoon character.

An Elvis Presley lunch box is a hot item that would be a little more costly simply because it is Elvis memorabilia. Everything that Elvis "the King" Presley is printed on becomes a bestseller. People buy the albums when they are remastered. Tons of people still tour Graceland every year to see where this pop icon lived. It is only natural to assume that the Elvis Presley lunch box would also be a popular item.

The Rolling Stones lunch box is about the only other music act that would produce similar fan appeal. Fans of the box would not be very likely to use the box. Most adults would be more likely to simply keep these items on display.

On the other end of the spectrum there are sellers. These are the people that have kept their boxes for a long time. For whatever reason they are interested in getting rid of the boxes. Some people sell them because they don't have any use for them. Others may sell these items in efforts to make some money. Most sellers know that these are rare finds. There are a few sellers, however, that are willing to part without these items for little or nothing. These are often sellers that do not know the value of the items that they have. A person interesting in obtaining items like this may get lucky. They may find a real deal online.

Tickets are on sale for the 80th birthday party celebration for Johnny Cash. He was born on February 26, 1932, and we said good-bye to him on Sept. 12, 2003 at age 71. The legendary musician will be honored this April 20, 2012 at the Austin City Limits Live venue in Austin, Texas. Cash's memory continues to live through his music. The concert is called --"We Walk the Line: A Celebration of the Music of Johnny Cash."

Performers include Kenny Chesney, Kris Kristofferson, Lucinda Williams, Ray LaMontagne, Jamey Johnson, Chris Cornell, Ronnie Dunn, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Amy Lee and Shooter Jennings
Because of Johnny Cash's crossover appeal, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Gospel Music Hall of Fame. He was fondly known as "The Man in Black" because of the dark clothes that he wore. One can only wonder what he would be singing today if he was still around to celebrate his 80th birthday party.
