Turning 65 can create many conflicting emotions. It is the official age to retire and the future is full of unknowns. That is why 65th birthday gifts created out of retro candy is a great gift. The recipient can forget about all the unknowns and travel back in time when life was simpler. Nostalgic candy is more than a tangible gift - it is a gift of precious memories. Some long forgotten memories no longer came to mind until a little piece of candy opened a door to the past.
Retro candy makes it easy to create a unique gift. There is a large selection of already made birthday baskets. People who want something more personal can make their own. Of course, every basket will start with an assortment of retro candy, but after that people are limited only by their own imagination. Consider some of the many creative ideas that take a baby boomer back to a different place and time.
Add some personal framed photos to the basket, of people from the past that share the same memories. Wax lips, candy cigarettes and bubble gum cigars were all fun candy back in the good old days. Almost every baby boomer will have a story to tell about things they did with family and friends. In those days, young girls did not wear hot red lipstick, boys did not smoke real cigars and neither smoked real cigarettes. When parents allowed kids to do those taboo actions with candy, they stood a foot taller and walked with a swagger.
Tuck a variety of old classic movies in with the 65th birthday gifts. When baby boomers were young, drive-in movies were the place to go. They are nearly extinct today, but a combination of retro candy and classic movies guarantee to trigger a flood of memories. While seniors may tell some of their stories from the drive-in movie days, one can bet there are just as many that they will never tell. Tamales, Bit-O-Honey, Chick-O-Stick and Laffy Taffy were some of the favorite candies at the time.
Personal letters recalling a memory from family and friends tucked in with retro candy makes a phenomenal 65th birthday gift. Little girls would get together and wear candy necklaces as if they were queens before finally breaking down and eating them. A group of boys would show off how tough they were with Atomic Fireballs. Include every kind of candy that each letter triggers. It will bring back memories of precious friendships and nostalgic courtships.
Candies from the past are as diverse as the memories. Other candies for a retro gift basket include Pixy Sticks, Turkish Taffy, Mary Janes, Wax Bottles, Candy Buttons, Boston Bakes Beans and Now and Laters, Sugar Daddy Pops, Red Hots, Cinnamon Toothpicks, Lemonheads, Licorice Pipes, Fruit Striped Gum and Slow Pokes. One of the exotic candies of the past was the scrumptious Cherry Mash. Whether people create their own 65th birthday gifts or purchase already made baskets, retro candy will bring back yesterdays memories.

Looking for a truly unique gift can be very difficult. However, there are many options out there for those who really love candy. Finding something that they will really enjoy isn't difficult, especially if they are interested in Asian culture. Also, if they love peace signs and other cute symbols they may love a candy assortment featuring the Chinese symbol for peace and love. This makes a wonderful gift that allows people to show that they recognize that a friend both has a sweet tooth and an interest in the Chinese culture, not to mention peace love and happiness.
This assortment is called Peace, Love and Happiness, and includes a wide variety of different candies. It makes a perfect gift for all sorts of different occasions, including birthdays, anniversaries or as a thank you. This assortment includes candies such as Pixy Stix, wax lips, Dots and Razzles. Overall, the assortment comes with forty kinds of candy. These are retro types of candy, most of them big favorites from the childhood of that generation most associated with peace signs, love and happiness (yes, I mean those old hippies, the baby boomers). Even if somebody isn't sure what kind of candy a friend may want, there is something here that will please everybody. Those who love candy will love all of the different options in this assortment. It comes at a great price, and people don't have to worry about picking out a gift after this. It is both very personal, and very easy to order.
The Chinese symbol for peace and love is also present on the front of the packaging for this assortment. It can show that a person has been paying attention to the interests of the person that they are giving this gift to, and that is very thoughtful. Different symbols are on a card that comes with the candy, and those who know a little bit about Chinese culture may appreciate seeing these as well. Even if the person doesn't know much about the Chinese, the words are also written in English on the card as well. For that reason, everybody will be able to appreciate this lovely and thoughtful gift of candy.
This is a gift that everybody can enjoy, and it also displays a touching message. Wishing whoever receives it peace and love is something that everybody will appreciate. Candy is something that almost everybody loves, so it is hard to go wrong with this gift assortment. If they know anything about Chinese culture or symbols, they may find it particularly interesting as well. They say that knowledge is power and with years comes wisdom. This is the beauty of turning 60 years young. Society is always looking for ways to make the older years seem younger, but why do that? Use the wisdom gained by embracing the big Six Zero. Deciding what to get a parent, friend, or acquaintance on their 60th birthday might seem complex, but it doesn’t have to be. One very “party friendly” choice would be one of the personalized 60th birthday gift baskets. These baskets come with various options, usually containing the candy and toys. A purchaser can select the best basket for their recipient based upon their likes, dislikes, and personality. This simple rule will guarantee the approval of the recipient.
Taking a trip down memory lane is perfect for this kind of gift giving, especially if the gift will be given at an occasion where the birthday person will be surrounded by family and friends. 60th birthday gift baskets for the celebrant should ideally contain items that were popular from about 40 to 55 years in the past. The taste or scent of something remembered from an individual’s youth can often trigger vivid memories, which in turn can provide some very entertaining story telling, tales that will be remembered for years to come by the younger ones attending the birthday bash. Just remember, the smell of patchouli incense may trigger some memories and stories that are not PG-13!
Sometimes the kids think that they have cornered the market on wild times. But remember, someone turning 60 this year was 16 or 17 years old in 1969, which was a very good and eventful year; the Woodstock Music Festival took place in August, David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” became a huge hit, The Beatles played their last live performance amongst London’s rooftops and released “Abbey Road”, Sly and the Family Stone put out “Everyday People”, Led Zeppelin released their first album, John married Yoko, Stevie Wonder recorded “For Once in My Life” and “My Cherie Amour”, Cream released their last album, “Goodbye”, Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” was #1 for many weeks, Brian Jones drowned in his pool and The Rolling Stones recorded “Honky Tonk Women”, Elvis Presley had his last big hits with “Suspicious Minds” and “In the Ghetto” and unfortunately, The Archies recorded “Sugar, Sugar”.
At the movies, notable films of 1969 were; “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”, “Midnight Cowboy”, “Easy Rider”, “The Wild Bunch”, “True Grit” and “Alice’s Restaurant”. On TV, the Smothers Brothers got kicked off the air on CBS, NBC canceled "Star Trek", "Monty Python’s Flying Circus" debuted on BBC, Scooby Doo made his first cartoon appearance on Saturday mornings and “The Brady Bunch” series began it’s long run.
What type of candy would appeal to a person turning 60 years young? Necco Wafers, Red Hots, Candy Buttons on Paper, Atomic Fireballs, Pixy Stix, Indian Pumpkin Seeds, Good & Plenty, Boston Baked Beans, Candy Cigarettes, those big Wax Lips and Chiclets Gum are sure to put a smile on the recipient’s face. Toys of note would include Pick Up Stix, Slinkies, Play Dough, Woolly Willies, Mr. Potato Head, Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys and Barbie. And it might be a great idea to include a “1969 Mix CD” to top off a 60th birthday gift basket. That might get the birthday boy or girl out of their seat and ready to dance!

If you are nostalgic and like to reminisce about days gone by, then you need to have a pair of Bootsy Collins glasses. These glasses are like a blast from the past. Wearing a pair of these glasses will take you right back to the 1970’s. Bootsy Collins is a famous R&B entertainer who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 along with George Clinton and fifteen other members of Parliament-Funkadelic. Prior to his membership in P-Funk, he was a member of James Brown’s backing band, the J.B.’s, in the late 60’s, after Brown’s last band quit over a pay dispute, and played bass on many of James Brown’s classic funk recordings, including “Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine”. By 1972, Bootsy had met George Clinton and became a part of Parliament-Funkadelic, along with his brother, Phelps “Catfish” Collins. Bootsy played bass on most of Funkadelic and all of Parliament’s albums (with the exception of “Osmium).
In 1976, Bootsy, Catfish, Frankie “Kash” Waddy, Joel Johnson, Gary “Mudbone” Cooper, Robert Johnson and a horn group named “The Horny Horns” formed “Bootsy’s Rubber Band”, a separate touring unit of Clinton’s P-Funk collection. He made these glasses famous in 1976, when he wore them while he sang his popular song, “I’d Rather Be With You”, and was photographed many times wearing them on stage. Ever since then, these glasses have been famous. In 1978, the Rubber Band recorded the album “Bootsy? Player of the Year”, which reached the top of the R&B Charts along with the single “Bootzilla”, which became one of his many alter egos on stage with P-Funk and Clinton. He continues to be an active musician, with many accomplishments.
More recently, in June of 2007, Bootsy, his brother Catfish and other musicians associated with P-Funk participated in recording the soundtrack to the movie “Superbad”. In 2011, he appeared on “Later…With Jools Holland”.
What makes Bootsy Collins glasses so popular is how stylish they look, then and now. These black glasses go with everything. They are lined with two rows of rhinestones along the top of the frames on the glasses. This adds a little pizzazz to them. Additionally, the glass lenses have a star design on them. The star was originally placed on the glasses to match the design on Bootsy’s bass guitar, the “Space Bass”, which is also star-shaped. One of the classic characteristics of these glasses is that “Bootsy” is inscribed on the arms of the glasses. These glasses look like something that would be worn by a star, which, in fact, they were! By Bootsy!
Regardless of the age or occasion, anyone can wear Bootsy Collins glasses. They go with any outfit. They have a vintage, retro look that is just as popular now as they were in the 1970’s. Don’t miss an opportunity to own a pair. They are fun and trendy. People will give compliments and will ask where they can get a pair of these glasses, too. Pick up some extra pairs so they can be given as gifts or as some very awesome party favors for a 50-something's birthday party. Anyone would love to have these "superbad" glasses.

Everyone can name at least one candy from their childhood that worked its way, not only into their stomachs, but their hearts as well. These sweets known as, ‘retro candy,’ call back to the days when penny candy ruled the shelves and the sweets of choice ranged from Bit-O-Honey to Boston Baked Beans. Over the course of almost three hundred years, the United States alone saw a multitude of candy companies come and go, some to be revitalized because of their cult-like followings while others simply faded into obscurity.
During the earliest years of civilization, the first candy known to man consisted of honeycombs simply taken from beehives. Centuries later, an Italian explorer by the name of Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas, discovering a bittersweet delight that would become one of the world’s most adored confections: chocolate. This treat would receive an even bigger boost during the 1800s, when there were hundreds of factories in the United States producing candy. One of these plants was headed by a man named Milton Hershey, a confectioner who had manufacturing equipment shipped from Germany to his very own factory based out of Pennsylvania. There, his employees went to work creating what was essentially the first American candy bar known to the world.
During the Second World War, in order to uplift American soldiers, women workers at the Whitman’s Candy Company slipped notes into boxes of their chocolate that were shipped overseas to the troops, which resulted in a few relationships, as well as marriages when they arrived back from battle. As the country headed into the fifties, televisions were finding their ways into the homes and minds of Americans, resulting in companies developing new and clever ways to promote their sweet concoctions to the youth of the nation.
By the 1960s, Mars was ushering in a new candy, one that was promoted as a healthy sweet loaded with Vitamin C called Starburst Fruit Chews.
Going into the seventies, one particular candy by the name of Pop Rocks gained an astronomical level of prominence in the seventies when an urban myth based around the idea that when mixed with Coca-Cola, it would cause one’s stomac
h to explode.
Big League Chewing Gum, founded in the 1980s, was created as a means to an end when baseball players Jim Bouton and Rob Nelson grew more and more concerned in regards to the number of players who used chewing tobacco during their games. Subsequently, candy cigarettes and bubble gum cigars took a dive in their mutual popularity.
Today, it takes a bit of effort to find those more obscure candies such as Charleston Chews and Lemonheads that, although still exist, are no longer advertised as heavily as their more up-to-date counterparts. However, movie theaters are still a prime spot to go for tried and true candies such as Sour Jacks, Milk Duds, and Good and Plenty. Just as sweet as the very first time, retro candy will never go out of style.

Often times coming up with creative ideas for get well presents for guys can be difficult; you want to show you care, but finding what is appropriate to give as a get well gift that is not overly expensive and is not flowers (not many guys really want to receive flowers) can be difficult. A fun way to cheer someone up, and break out of the box, is to try buying them unusual get well gifts. Gifts like these are easily found, and are a more imaginative way to show someone you are thinking about them than just sending a “Get Well” card. Here is a list of some fun unusual get well gifts that are bound to cheer someone up.
1. A Get Well Retro Candy Box: Many online suppliers offer fun throwback get well candy sets. These include many fun classic candies including: Sugar Daddies, Pixie Sticks, Now and Later’s, Pop Rocks, taffy, and much more. These sets will bring someone back to their childhood, and excite/entertain them enough to make them forget they are not feeling well. Plus, receiving candy is always better than receiving a card.
2. A Joke Book: It may sound simple, and it may sound lame, but if someone is not feeling well, they could probably use a good laugh to help cheer them up. A cheesy cheap joke book may not be high quality, but the ridiculousness of the jokes will provide a few laughs, and help provide a distraction for a while. It truly is a fact that laughter will help in healing.
3. Cheesy Hats: Hats like you would find at the 99 Cent store, or at a party supply store, are a fun and unusual get well present. Make a fun game out of trying on a bunch of the ridiculous hats and taking pictures of each other. Ensuring that someone is happy and in a good mood is the best way you can help speed up their recovery.
4. A Tickle Me Elmo Doll: Go to a children’s store and find the most ridiculous/ hilarious throwback toy you can find (it does not have to be Tickle Me Elmo). If you know the person well, try to find a toy they had as a kid to make a fun inside joke out of it. Laughter truly is the best medicine, and providing a unique and entertaining gift will go a lot father in helping a person recover than a get well card will.
This is just a list of general ideas to help you find an unusual get well gift. The important thing about a get well present is to find something that will cheer the person up, and provide them a distraction. Often times, unusual get well gifts are the best means by which to do this; the person will be so shocked, excited, or busy dying of laughter, that they will not have the time to focus on the fact that they are not well. Putting in the extra effort to look for a creative get well gift can go a long way in helping someone feel better.

For some people turning 50 is just another day, while for others it’s a huge deal. A 50th birthday is an important milestone in a person’s life. It means that you made it through half a century, with hopefully another half to go. Some people prefer to spend this important day with just family, while others like to take to the town to celebrate it with friends. Either way, turning 50 is an important birthday and deserves a unique gift.
Finding a unique gift idea for 50th birthday can be a fun thing to do. There are many websites and stores out there that cater to finding just the right unique gift idea for a 50th birthday.
For women, you could put together a “pamper yourself” basket. Just find an old wicker basket and put some of her favorite CD’S in it. They do not have to be expensive, many stores sell CD’S very cheap and you can even download them from the Internet and put them on a CD yourself. Make some homemade cookies and place them in a nice box along with some tea bags and hot chocolate. Go to the dollar store and pick up some magazines she might like and add a few pieces of gourmet chocolate. You could also put in some nail polish along with some face cream or make up. Any women would enjoy this unique gift.
Here are some unique gift ideas for men for their 50th birthday. You could get them tickets to some events you know he likes to attend, or consider getting then a gift certificate to their favorite store. Gag gifts are always a good choice, everyone likes a good laugh, and turning 50 is the perfect time to give a gag gift.
You could also arrange for them to meet up with some of their old friends that they have been out of touch with, considering they still want to see them. Another unique idea would be to go and find out what the number one song was the year that the person was born, and make a CD of all the number one songs from the year the person was born up to the present number one song. This will give that person many hours of enjoyment. You could also find out the movie that won an Oscar the year the person was born and buy it for them on a DVD. If you would like to be more extravagant, then you could get them a DVD of the film that won an Oscar for each decade up until the present year.
Another unique 50th birthday gift would be to buy the person 50 lottery tickets. You never know, one of them just may be the big winner!!!

Don't miss or dismiss a thirty-year-old's birthday! This is the age where people (well, at least most of us) genuinely feel that they have left their childhood behind. This is actually a good thing and should be enjoyed by receiving gifts; lighthearted gifts where everything given is fun, and makes them feel cared for. Reminders of their childhood and the days of their youth can be comforting as they make this transition to absolute adulthood. Candy is a comfort item. It brings a smile to everyone's face. A 30th birthday gift basket might include nostalgic brands of candy that only a thirty year old would remember and appreciate. It will be a surprise to them as they reminisce about candy that they had forgotten about.
Candy helps everyone to think of some great movie they saw when they were small because they got that favorite box of candy to enjoy the movie by. A 30th birthday gift basket also reminds them of different holidays that they and their families celebrated together. Candy also reminds them of after school treats and having mom's cookies or candy waiting for them. It can also remind them of their first date when they bought that box of candy and flowers for that special someone. Candy helps every occasion to become more memorable. Remember that candy purchased while bowling with buddies? Remember the skating rink and the many different choices of favorite candies? Candy takes you back to happy times.
So while deciding what to get that 30th birthday person, remember the candy gift baskets that are available online. Don't miss the opportunity to brighten a birthday! For the person who has everything, giving the gift of candy is like showing them that their childhood and their younger years aren't forgotten and someone cares enough to share it with them.
Gift baskets can be ordered online and has never been easier. This type of birthday ordering is also very efficient and you can enjoy the process because the retailer does all of the work. The 30th birthday gift basket works well for anyone, whether they’re happy or sad to be turning the big three zero. There are also little gift ideas to go along with the candy. DVDs from movies the birthday boy or girl will remember from their teen years can be a fun thing to add to these gift baskets. Here are a few suggestions; “”Men In Black”, “Jurassic Park” “Titanic” and “Something About Mary”. How about adding a mix CD from the same era? If it’s for a female, you can never go wrong with a little Justin Timberlake, who incidentally turned 32 on January 31.

It's remarkable how certain items have a tendency to cause people to reflect on their childhood memories. It's often a favorite toy, such as a special doll or train set that they played with as a child. It could also be a song, a favorite smell, an ice cream cone, or even a simple piece of candy that ignites their memories. This article explores several popular 1970s candy brands that have had an everlasting impact on countless people all over the world.
During the early 1970s, the classic children’s book by Roald Dahl, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ” was adapted to become the movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” starring Gene Wilder. Along with the success of the film, consumers created a strong demand for candies associated with the Willy Wonka brand. This demand let to the growth of an empire. The Wonka brand had its beginnings in the year 1971, and it coincided with the introduction of this classic film to the public. Many of these particular 1970s candies actually originated from the original book and movie, including the famous Wonka Bar and the legendary Everlasting Gobstoppers.
Nestle purchased the Wonka brand in 1988, and they now have numerous Wonka related candies that include: Nerds, Bottle Caps, Kazoozles, Runts, Wonka Fun Dip, Laffy Taffy, Sweet Tarts, Shockers, and more.
Another candy to have a strong impact on the population during the 1970s was Pop Rocks. These tiny rocks that explode in children's mouths became a big hit on school campuses everywhere. Many kids like to see how many Pop Rocks they can squeeze into their mouths before succumbing to the never-ending detonations. Pop Rocks were popular then, and they remain a favorite for kids to this very day - another huge success story.
Although created much earlier than 1970, the next candy is completely worthy of mentioning in this article. Tootsie Roll was a favorite of many during the 1970s, and it remains an all time favorite - especially during the Halloween season. The Tootsie Roll was created in the year 1896, when an Austrian named Leo Hirshfield opened a petite candy shop in New York City.
Leo handcrafted and individually wrapped his chewy chocolate delights - which quickly became a customer favorite. He charged a penny a piece for the candy, and he named the tasty treats after his daughter Clara's nickname, which was "Tootsie." Over the years, Tootsie Roll Industries has grown into one of the largest candy manufacturers in the world, and their yearly sales are closing in on the half-billion dollar mark. These candies have all stood the test of time, and they won't be going away anytime soon either.
